Weight-Loss Surgery Denver
At Sky Ridge Medical Center, our board-certified bariatric surgeon performs the following weight-loss surgeries at our Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence:
Gastric Plication or Laparoscopic Greater Curvature Plication (LGCP)
Gastric Plication is an innovative weight-loss procedure that involves surgically folding the stomach in order to reduce its size without implants, cutting the stomach or using staples. Frank Chae, MD, Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center Denver at Sky Ridge, was the first bariatric surgeon in Colorado to offer this investigational, minimally invasive procedure for weight loss.
Gastric Sleeve or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
The Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure surgically removes most of the stomach to create a long tubular or "banana" shaped stomach. Three years of follow-up studies have shown that vertical sleeve gastrectomy is at least as effective and durable as gastric banding.
Lap® Band & Realize® Band/Gastric Restrictive Procedure
Gastric Restrictive procedures place an adjustable band around the stomach with the aid of a laparoscope (a tiny tool with a camera on it) in order to restrict how much food enters the stomach. Gastric banding is recommended for patients who want to lose 50 to 120 pounds. After 10 years, studies show that patients can maintain 50% of targeted excess weight loss.
Roux-en-Y (RNY) Gastric Bypass Surgery/Malabsorptive Procedure
The Gastric Bypass procedure creates a small pouch to serve as the stomach, so you cannot eat as much. In a recent study with 125 patients, individuals who had the surgery lost 74% of excess weight in the first year, 78% in year two, 81% at year three, 84% by year four and by year five, 91%.
