Michelle's Weight Loss Surgery Success Story

Lost 200 Pounds

Michelle Before Bariatric Surgery Michelle After Weight Loss Surgery

Three years ago I weighed nearly 400 pounds, but I still considered myself fairly healthy.

No diabetes. Cholesterol was good. Then the headaches started. They got so bad that I had to see a neurologist and have a series of spinal taps done. Then my eye doctor discovered I had Papilledema, a rare condition that could render me blind. This was devastating.

He told me I needed to lose weight and quick. That's when I decided to have bypass surgery. The choice was pretty clear: Have the surgery or go blind!

So it's been three years and I still have my sight! And I have something I didn't expect‚ a whole new outlook on life. At my heaviest, my worst fear was falling. I was scared I couldn't get back up. Now I have taken up curling (you know, the sport with the rocks and the brooms played on ICE!) and falling is just par for the course. I don't even think about it. I just laugh and get back up.

So while I may have had gastric bypass to save my sight‚ it really ended up saving my life!
