J. Adair Prall, MD

Dr. J. Adair Prall is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is experienced in all types of cranial and spinal surgery, and is nationally renowned for his expertise in vascular compression syndromes, including trigeminal neuralgia.

Dr. Prall earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from The University of Cincinnati. He currently holds an appointment as a clinical professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

Dr. David VanSickle, DBS Expert, Sky Ridge Medical Center

David P. VanSickle, MD, PhD

Dr. VanSickle is board eligible by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. After earning a masters and doctorate in bioengineering, Dr. VanSickle went on to pursue a career in neurosurgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a six year neurosurgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. While there, he was named Surgical Intern of the Year and later the Neurosurgery Resident of the Year.

He also patented a new device to help facilitate epilepsy surgery and has particular interest in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for the treatment of of neurologic diseases including Parkinson's disease, Essential Tremor, Dystonia and even OCD.. Dr. VanSickle has authored and co-authroed numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and has given multiple presentations. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Bernard Guiot, MD, Neurosurgeon at Sky Ridge Medical Center

Bernard Guiot, MD

Dr. Ben Guiot is board certified by both the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Guiot received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa School of Medicine in Canada. He completed his neurosurgical residency training at the University of Ottawa before embarking on post graduate training in spine. Dr. Guiot completed three fellowships in spinal disorders: the first in pediatric spinal deformity in the Department of Orthopedics at McGill University in Montreal, and the other two in complex adult reconstructive surgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida.

He has spent the last ten years in academic institutions in the United States devoting himself to the practice of spinal surgery. His expertise in spine has led him to undertake the most challenging cases, often referred to him by his neurological and orthopedic colleagues.

Dr. Guiot brings a unique skill set to spine surgery. The years of fellowship training and academic institutions have allowed him to join a very select group of individuals who can truly address a broad spectrum of spine disorders.

Mariel Szapiel, MD, Neurosurgeon at Sky Ridge Medical Center

Mariel Szapiel, MD

Dr. Szapiel is board eligible by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. She practices general neurosurgery and has a special interest in functional neurosurgery, including deep brain stimulation (DBS).

After receiving her undergraduate degree in Industrial Microbiology, Dr. Szapiel went on to obtain her medical degree and complete a general surgery internship at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She concluded her training at The Ohio State University Medical Center with a residency in Neurological Surgery and a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery.

She is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), and the American Medical Association (AMA).
