How to Prepare for Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Study

If you are undergoing a Myocardial Perfusion imaging study you should:

  • Avoid Beta-blockers, Calcium Channel blockers, and Methylxanthine-containing medications
  • Do not consume any caffeine products (coffee, tea, chocolate, even decaffeinated products should be avoided) for at least 12 hours prior to the imaging appointment
  • Do not eat any food at least 4 hours prior to the imaging appointment. Small amounts of fluids are acceptable (non-caffeinated, of course)
  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Feel free to bring an MP3/portable music player or your favorite CD (we have a CD player)
  • Feel free to bring a bottled water, orange juice, apple juice or milk
