Ensuring Safe Patient Care at Sky Ridge

Sky Ridge was a proud participant in the Colorado Trust's 18-month 100K Lives Campaign, which helped hospitals across the state strengthen their quality improvement systems to ensure safe patient care. We were one of 61 of Colorado's acute care hospitals that committed to this effort.

The aim of the campaign was to encourage hospitals to implement such sustainable changes as rapid response teams, making certain prescribed medications work well when combined and following guidelines to prevent heart attacks, infections and ventilator associated pneumonia. These evidence-based interventions have demonstrated a positive impact in reducing hospital mortality and complications.

Sky Ridge STAT Team

At Sky Ridge, we have created at STAT Team (Rapid Response Team) to respond to patient medical emergencies even more quickly. Another key area of focus is reducing infections. Our team has implemented a number of actions that have kept our surgical site and central line infection rates very low. From a medication perspective, not only do we have eMAR (electronic Medication Administration Record) to reduce medication errors, but we have created a variety of venues for our patients to discuss their medication habits so that we may identify any potentially dangerous interactions.

These are just a few of the many enhancements we have made to create an even safer care environment. I thank our staff and physicians for their ongoing commitment to patient safety.
